In China, the soybean industry is an industry that is closely related to the national economy and people's livelihood, and has significant macroeconomic significance. Once our country does not have sufficient soybean production, domestic soybean prices, daily consumption, food safety, and people's health will all be affected. Therefore, members of the Heilongjiang Provincial Democratic Alliance call for the inclusion of soybean processing in the national food security emergency system.
During the research, members of the Heilongjiang Provincial Democratic Alliance learned that due to the impact of genetically modified soybeans, farmers in Heilongjiang have recently encountered difficulties in selling soybeans, and a large influx of genetically modified soybeans and their products will inevitably cause genetic pollution of soybeans. By then, not only will nearly a hundred oil processing enterprises in Heilongjiang Province be affected, but it will also inevitably affect farmers and related industries in all soybean producing areas.
They suggested that soybean processing be included in the national food security emergency system, a development plan for non genetically modified soybean industry should be formulated as soon as possible, an independent edible oil raw material base should be established in China, and local edible oil processing enterprises should be cultivated and strengthened. Simultaneously raising the threshold for importing genetically modified raw materials. The WTO Agreement on Agriculture allows member governments to take legitimate measures aimed at protecting human health and the safety of animal and plant life. Therefore, we can flexibly apply the "Regulations on the Safety Management of Agricultural Genetically Modified Organisms" to increase tariffs and increase import approval procedures for enterprises that mainly use imported genetically modified soybeans as raw materials.
Meanwhile, it is recommended to implement a nationwide mandatory labeling system for genetically modified agricultural products at all stages of market circulation. This can greatly suppress the market demand for genetically modified soybeans, thereby affecting the production, processing, import, and sales of genetically modified soybeans. At the same time, increase the role of public opinion guidance, promote the safety and nutritional value of non genetically modified oils, and distinguish the essential differences between genetically modified oils and non genetically modified oils.
